date, only 31 meteorites of this type have been discovered.<\/p>\n<p>The total known mass of this meteorite is only 42 grams !<\/p>\n<p>This meteorite is of the same type as the famous Tagish Lake 0.6428554<\/p>\n<p class=\"MBIndent\">Gao, Mali<\/p>\n<p class=\"MBIndent\">Find: 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"MBIndent\">Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite)<\/p>\n<p class=\"MBNormal\"><strong>History<\/strong>: In 2025, fragments of a meteorite were discovered in a desert area 60 km east of the village of Tarkint and approximately 150 km northeast of the city of Gao, Mali. The discovery occurred by chance during a local field survey, where the distinctive surface features of the stones drew the attention of the field researchers. Purchased by Ali Muftah in 2025.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MBNormal\"><strong>Physical characteristics<\/strong>: The total collected mass was approximately 2 kg. The deposit samples display an exterior partially covered with dark, slightly abraded fusion crust. Sawcut surface reveals many distinctive mm-sized brown-green olivine phenocrysts set in light tan-colored, fine-grained groundmass.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MBNormal\"><strong>Petrography<\/strong>: (C. Agee, <em>UNM<\/em>) Electron microprobe analysis of a polished mount shows this meteorite to be an olivine-phyric shergottite. Olivine phenocrysts display core-rim igneous zoning. Plagioclase has been converted to maskelynite. Fine-grained pigeonite and maskelynite make up the groundmass. Minor amounts of chromite, Ti-magnetite, and troilite are ubiquitous.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"MBNormal\"><strong>Geochemistry<\/strong>: (T. Shisseh, <em>UNM<\/em>) Olivine Fa<sub>32.6\u00b112.1<\/sub>, Fe\/Mn=53\u00b14, n=13; pigeonite Fs<sub>23.3\u00b13.2<\/sub>Wo<sub>4.9\u00b12.2<\/sub>, Fe\/Mn=30\u00b11, n=17; maskelynite An<sub>54.9\u00b13.5<\/sub>Ab<sub>44.7\u00b13.5<\/sub>, n=4. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MBNormal\"><strong>Classification<\/strong>: Martian, olivine-phyric shergottite. Visually, the macroscopic texture of this meteorite is reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lpi.usra.edu\/meteor\/metbull.php?code=62637\">NWA 10416<\/a>, however they are not paired. This meteorite lacks augite and altered olivine, it also has maskelynite-only, with no remnant plagioclase present.
