NWA 15972 is a beautiful LL3 chondrite weighing just 317 grams.<\/p>\n

The estimated subtype is LL3.2; as of now, there are only 21 meteorites of this type in the world.<\/p>\n

Of the more than 80,000 meteorites recorded on Earth, this tiny number confirms the extreme rarity of this type of primitive rock.<\/p>\n

LL3.2 chondrites are considered to be true \u201ctime capsules\u201d of our early solar system.<\/p>\n

This meteorite was analyzed at Cerege by J\u00e9r\u00f4me Gattacceca.<\/p>\n

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3)<\/p>\n

History: Found in Morocco, and bought by Jean Redelsperger in Guelmim in 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Physical characteristics: Some fragments are partially crusted.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Petrography: (J.<\/strong> Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with packed chondrules ~800 \u00b5m set in a fin<\/i>e-grained matrix. Opaque minerals are metal and troilite. <\/p>\n

Geochemistry: Olivine<\/strong> Fa14.2\u00b18.1, range<\/sub> Fa0.4-29.9, Fa PMD 46% (<\/sub>n=18). Cr2O<\/sub>3 in ferroan olivine 0.157\u00b10.089 wt% (n=17).<\/sub> Low-Ca pyroxene Fs8.4\u00b13.5Wo<\/sub>1.8\u00b11.4 (n=5).<\/sub> <\/p>\n

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3).<\/strong> LL group based on chondrule size and magnetic susceptibility. Sub>he Cr2<\/sub>O3 content of ferroan olivine.<\/sub> Estimated subtype 3.2 based on the olivine Fa PMD. <\/p>\n
