Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 14826 (NWA 14826)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3)

History: Bought by Isabelle Pothier in 2021

Physical characteristics: A single stone without fusion crust

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with packed chondrules with average apparent diameter 1190±530 µm (n=21) set in a rare fine-grained matrix. Olivine is zoned. Opaque minerals are metal and troilite. Some chondrules are rimmed with metal and troilite. A 1 cm sized chondrule is visible in the studied section.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa15.0±8.7, range Fa0.8-28.0, Fa PMD 52% (n=9). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.28±0.09 wt%. Low-Ca pyroxene Fs4.6Wo0.4 (n=2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3). LL group based on magnetic susceptibility and chondrule size. Cr2O3 content of ferroan olivine suggests a low petrographic subtype.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Jean Redelsperger.
